Ode to the Tax Man
Last year, refund hoped
Older man in sweater vest
Might grant Canon dreams.
Alas. Withholdings
Not up to par. Thousands owed.
Tax man stares at screen.
His hair is silver.
Grandchildren smile in photo.
Papers stacked. Throats cleared.
Married and zero
Not same as single with naught.
Camera fades out.
Kindly tax man smiles.
He tries to explain new plan.
Strategy all new.
A terrible day.
As I also turned 40.
Ran to bed and cried.
This year, Turbo Tax.
Better numbers, refund sure.
But I miss Tax Man.
Must pay bills this year,
No new toy. But wish to see,
Kindly Tax Man smile.

Oh, wow! I do believe this is the first time I've ever seen taxes inspire anyone to write poetry. (Taxes are good for something after all ;-)) Well done :D

I've been trolling the web looking for this kinda stuff for my Tax Day Politiku (political haiku). Would you be willing to submit yours to my Tumblr along with a link to your site so I can post? http://politiku.tumblr.com/post/4634095854/susanna-speier-tax-day-politiku

This is such a sweet haiku, PPP. I used to work in an office where some days we would answer emails exclusively in haiku. We were never so classy. :)
If I start writing haiku on Fridays, does that make us our own little haiku network?
