Summertimes as a kid - what comes to mind?
For me, summer meant walks to the library, living in roller skates, swimming in the community pool, and sprinting out the door when you heard the ice cream truck coming.
Also, I created the personal challenge of how long could I sleep in before I couldn't sleep anymore (personal best was 1:00 pm and I felt terrible the whole day). Ahhh, the good ole days.
But I feel bad for the kids in the Pacific NW this year. Their essay of "What I Did This Summer" might be the same as "What I Did for Winter Break." I hope they kept it so it can be recycled. We've had THE shortest and THE grumpiest summer on human record . I think we're officially on our third week of actual summer weather, with two whole days now over 80 degrees. Get out your party hats!
Yesterday, it rained and I logged into Expedia.
However, the weatherman assures us the rain is done (for now) and the sun shineth forth this morning. That guarantees I'll be hearing musical stylings of the ice cream truck this afternoon. For the children on our street, thank goodness they'll at least get a sampling of the summer classics.
Think this is just a little thing? When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, my five-year-old nephew replied without hesitation: "The Ice Cream Man or the Pizza Delivery Guy." Clearly, noble professions.
Doesn't that tinny music bring make you smile? For me, it says, "Get up from this dang computer and get some sun! Breathe fresh air! Oh, and don't forget your wallet. How much is a drumstick again?" After all, grown ups like treats before dinner, too.
Love the girl with her hand on her hip!
Gotta have a Dad With Wallet.
Nice doggy!! I sure hope he has ear plugs.
"Pop Goes the Weasel" can hurt.
Grandpa would like the ice cream sandwich, please.
What's your summertime treat?
